Compassion At Christmas
Compassion at Christmas started over 2000 years ago when God demonstrated the most compassionate act in history. He sent his only Son to save a broken world. Jesus has been calling us to unleash that same compassion to others ever since.
This Christmas, CCV is embarking on the largest initiative we’ve ever attempted. Our vision is to end extreme poverty and transform an entire country. Extreme poverty is defined as those living on less than $2.00/day. Worldwide, 18,000 children die daily from poverty or poverty related issues. We can help change this.
For the last half-century, the country of Colombia has experienced the devastating effects of violence, drug trafficking and corruption. The devastation that has been unleashed on this country reaches far beyond their borders. Currently, ninety percent of the cocaine being distributed in the US comes from Colombia.
Because of the internal conflict they have been experiencing for years, Colombia has more Internally Displaced People (IDP), people who have had to flee their home or risk being killed, than any other country in the world. Roughly eighty percent of these individuals end up in poverty.
What can be done?
“If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?”
1 John 3:17
In partnership with Compassion International, we have the opportunity to sponsor children living in extreme poverty in Colombia. Compassion has been working in Colombia for 43 years to end poverty and share the love of Christ.
By sponsoring a child in extreme poverty you can change the entire course of their life. You are connected with a boy or girl who will get to know you and your family and eventually become a part of your extended family. For $38/month you can help provide life-changing opportunities such as:
- receiving an education
- medical care and learning how to maintain personal hygiene
- nourishing food
- vocational training, mentoring, developing self-confidence and social skills
- and most important, to hear the gospel.
Even more remarkable is that for every child that is sponsored, there are typically 30 people in their sphere of influence that will also have the opportunity to hear the message of Jesus.
Plant a Church
Meet their spiritual needs
What if we could impact the country of Colombia in the same way we are impacting the valley? Our goal is to do just that. Through sponsorships, we can meet the physical and medical needs of the children, but unless we introduce them to Jesus, we haven’t done the most important work.
With your help, CCV intends to plant 8 churches in Colombia (1 church plant for every CCV campus). These church plants will create spiritual transformation and community revival that will change the country. The churches we plant will serve as a house of worship as well as a child development center, where all of the sponsored children from the village will go to be fed, attend school, and receive medical care.
There is nothing more impactful than going on a mission trip. See firsthand the difference you are making. There are several opportunities in 2018 to travel to Colombia where you can tour the churches built through your gifts. We have planned 8 trips to Colombia in 2018, with more to come.
During the trip, you will visit your campus church plant and have the opportunity to do home visits, attend classes at the Child Development Center, serve lunch to the kiddos, and do children's activities with them. The best part is, if you’ve sponsored a child, you’ll have the opportunity to meet them and their family. You will literally be able to step into your child’s world - play games with them, try their favorite foods, and experience first-hand the growth and impact being made in the community.
