A team from CCV Avondale just returned from a visit to the church at Palmira. They got to visit the kids they sponsor, get a grand overview of the Compassion program in the community, and worship with the church.
One powerful impact the trip had on the participants had to do with the sponsor relationship. The sponsored children in Colombia view their sponsor as their Padrino or Madrino. In latin american cultures, this term is Godfather or Godmother, seen as someone who has significant responsibility for the spiritual life of the child. That's how they see us sponsors! We are their spiritual mother or father. They are looking to us for guidance and prayer and support. The parents in Colombia are looking to us to help shape their children's spiritual life. What a humbling realization to know that's how they see us. It makes our responsibility to engage them, write letters, share the Gospel, share the Word, and pray for them SO MUCH BIGGER!
