English Class Volunteer

Come alongside a refugee as they seek to learn the English language. Twice a week, refugees come to one of GoTEN's Ministry Centers (3 locations around the valley) to study English through Rosetta Stone. As a volunteer, you will sit beside and assist them with their understanding. GoTEN's intention is for volunteers to truly engage with and begin relationships with the refugees they are partnered with and support them in their growth. No English or Teaching training is required.

Frequency:

Flexible – Ongoing (1.5 hours of time, once a week)

Must be a native English speaker

Refugee Tutoring Volunteer

Come alongside a refugee family by assisting their children with homework in GoTEN’s after-school program. Most parents of refugee children do not speak English and do not have the capacity to help their children with homework. GoTEN staff invite children from Canyon Pointe Apartments to attend an after-school program where volunteers help children in grades 1-8 with homework. Volunteers must pass a background check. No additional training is required.

Frequency:

Flexible – Ongoing (1.5 hours of time, once or twice a week)

Must be able to speak English

Must pass a background check

Refugee Sewing Volunteer

GoTEN is helping refugee women develop and grow micro-businesses. Refugees learn to sew and GoTEN helps sell their products in an online store. GoTEN sewing classes are taught by an instructor and each refugee seamstress is assisted by a volunteer helper. GoTEN's intention is for volunteers to truly engage with and begin relationships with the refugees they are partnered with and support them in their growth.

Frequency:

Flexible – Ongoing (2 hours of time, once a week)

Requirements:

Must be able to speak English

Must know how to operate a sewing machine
