Who can go?

This trip is designed for adults, but children in high school are welcome. Please contact HeidiFigg@ccv.church for questions about your children traveling on this trip.

This trip requires long, active days.   Most activities will include walking approximately 3-5 miles per day.  We would recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes or sneakers each day.  Most walks will be light to moderate strenuous level and there will be breaks throughout the day as you travel to and from sites.  Please keep in mind that walks will include steps, hills, and uneven terrain.  Some sites could be difficult to fully experience and may have to be missed due to certain situations.  A good indicator of your ability to comfortably maneuver the day to day tour is to hike prayer hill on the CCV Peoria campus 3 times in a row.  Please assess your own physical health and limitations to discern if you're going to be healthy on this trip.

We will be spending eight days in-country traveling throughout the Holy Land of Israel. Our days will be flexible as our professional guides will be in contact with our planned location stops to maximize our trip. We will do our very best to see all our planned ancient sites; however, please apply grace if some unforeseen condition arises that will prevent us from seeing a particular site. We will be traveling in deluxe air-conditioned motor coaches with WiFi and staying in 4 and 5 star hotels. We expect to see all the following sites:
  • Church of Annunciation - The church and site that celebrates the news from Gabriel that Mary would give birth to Jesus (Luke 1).
  • Armageddon Battlefield (probably Hebrew: “Hill of Megiddo”) - In the New Testament, place where the kings of the earth under demonic leadership will wage war on the forces of God at the end of history. Armageddon is mentioned in the Bible only once, in the Revelation to John or the Apocalypse of St. John (16:16).
  • Mt. Carmel where Elijah issued his challenge of the False Prophets (1 Kings 18:16-24).
  • Caesarea by the Sea (Acts 9:30 Acts 10:24-48) - The center for early Christians and today an impressive archaeological site. Built by King Herod, this is where Paul made his defense before Festus before his final journey to Rome (Acts 25-26).
  • Caesarea Philippi - It was here that Herod the Great built the Temple of Augustus (Augusteum) in 19 B.C. to honor his Caesar. The temple sat in front of the cave that was believed to be the gateway to the underworld and where the Greek god Pan lived.
  • Mount of Beatitudes (Matthew 5, Matthew 6, Matthew 7, Matthew 8) - Where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount, see the famous Church of the Beatitudes chapel constructed between 1936 and 1938.
  • Magdala - The home town of Mary Magdalene (Mathew 15:39).
  • Jordan River baptismal site - There are actually two sites which are regarded by many to be the place where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan.
  • Ein Gedi - where David hid in a cave while running from Saul (1 Samuel 23), it was here that David composed several of his Psalms.
  • Church of the Holy Sepulcher (Matthew 27, Matthew 33:57, Matthew 28:10) - where you'll find the last Station 14 of the cross and where pilgrims celebrate and mark the crucifixion and burial of Jesus.
  • Capernaum (Matthew 4:13, Matthew 13:54, Matthew 17:24, Luke 7, Mark 1:2, John 4:46, John 4:54) - where it is believed to have been Jesus' home and the center of his ministry. Here we can stand in what is left of the synagogue in which Jesus ministered and where he preformed many miracles. It is in Capernaum where Peter’s mother-in-law lived and was healed (Luke 4:38-40).
  • Sea of Galilee Boat ride - where the Lord calmed the storm (Luke 8:22-25) and where the dramatic miracle walking on water (Mark 6:47-52) took place.
  • Dead Sea - where you’ll have an opportunity to swim and float on the Dead Sea. It's the lowest place on earth.
  • Holocaust Museum - This was a decade in the making to take Holocaust remembrance well into the 21st century.
  • Beth She’an (Mark 5:20, Mark 7:31) - View the archaeological site where after defeating Saul and his sons on Mount Gilboa, the Philistines hanged their bodies on the walls of Beth Shean (2 Samuel 21:12-14).
  • Model City. This is a model of the city of Jerusalem right before the destruction of the city and the Temple in 70 A.D.  This large scale model lets you see the relationships of the sites.
  • Via Dolorosa - where we'll walk the Stations of the Cross including the Judgment Hall of Pilate (John 18:33).
  • Masada famous for being the last stronghold of the Jewish rebellion against the Romans. We will ascend to Masada by cable car and discover the first century Synagogue, King Herod’s Bath house and other sites atop Masada.
  • Tiberias - today the capital of Galilee was established around 20 BC by the Romans, and named after the second emperor of the Roman Empire, Tiberius. Tradition holds that the city is built on the site of the biblical city of Rakkath (Joshua 19:35).
  • Rabbinical Tunnel (Western Wall Tunnel) - You will see stones, models and actual structures which provide clues as to how the Second Temple was constructed. In addition, these artifacts help explain the history of this area through the eyes of all the great empires that once ruled Jerusalem.
  • Pool of Bethesda was a pool in Jerusalem known from the New Testament story of Jesus' miraculously healing of a paralyzed man from the fifth chapter of the Gospel of John, where it is described as being near the Sheep Gate.
  • Wailing Wall - The holiest site in Judaism and one of the original walls that retained the Temple.
  • Garden of Gethsemane - The place that Jesus prays (Luke 22:39) and his disciples customarily visited, which allowed Judas to find him on that fateful night of his arrest (Luke 22:47-52). Itt's in Gethsemane where an angel from heaven appears to strengthen Jesus (Luke 22:43) and where he found his disciples sleeping and awakes them and tells them to get up and pray (Luke 22:46). You will see 2,000 year old Olive trees that date back to the time of Christ.
  • Bethlehem - where Joseph traveled with Mary who was pregnant (Luke 2:1-7), where Jesus was born (Matthew 2:1-5), and where lies the Church of Nativity
  • Mt. of Olives where the Lord ascended into heaven (Acts 1).
  • Garden Tomb - celebrate the resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 15, Luke 24:6-7, Mark 16:5-7) with a time for prayer.
  • Caiaphas House - The House of Caiaphas or The Palace of Caiaphas is the place where the High Priest of Israel resided, and it was here that Jesus was tried informally by the Sanhedrin.
  • Temple Mount known in Hebrew as Har Habayit is traditionally said to be the site where Abraham demonstrated his devotion to God by taking his son Isaac to be sacrificed
